So yesterday was apparently National Drinking straw day, yeah I know right this is the first that I have heard of it too, it seems that people will just create national days to celebrate anything these days.
I remember growing up I had only heard of a few days that were celebrated and they seemed more important. Days like Australia Day, New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, St Patrick's Day, Good Friday, Boxing Day, Labor Day and Queen's Birthday. These are only a few that I could remember and only from the UK and Australia as they are the only places that I have ever lived but I'm sure there are some other days that are worthy of this list.
The ones popping up now. It only really annoys me because I keep getting tagged in some of these posts or when I go onto social media there is just post after post under the tags flooding my feed, it is really spammy and people have even asked me 'what are you doing for national hug your cat day?' and I have always responded nothing, because I hug my cat every day, we don't need a day to celebrate it.
There some absolutely ridiculous days for things that really do not need a day named after it, some of the most ridiculous ones I have heard of so far include:
January 15 is … Hat Day
January 21 is … National Hugging Day
February 23 is … International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day
March 8 is … Be Nasty Day
April 2 is … National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day
May 10 is … Clean Up Your Room Day
June 20 is … Ice Cream Soda Day
July 3 is … Stay Out Of The Sun Day
August 6 is … Wiggle Your Toes Day
September 18 is … National Play-doh Day
October 2 is … Name Your Car Day
November 15 is … National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day
December 4 is … Wear Brown Shoes Day
A lot of these things like cleaning out, your fridge, appreciating your loved ones, cleaning up your room most people do or at least they should do anyway so why is there a need to make a day for it? I believe that these kinds of days should be reserved for things that are worthy of celebrating, they have to have a rather significant impact on our lives or be something that we want to be remembered throughout history.
What days have you seen that you think are ridiculous or there is no need for? How do you feel about these kinds of national days?
