Review: Ikea morgedal mattress

Updated: Sep 26, 2019

This Christmas just passed, after putting away our pennies for several months we bought ourselves a new mattress, a Christmas present to ourselves and we needed it. Our old mattress was worn-out, it was far from comfortable. I swear some days I woke up more sore and tired after having a sleep than I did going to bed.

The mattress we chose was the Ikea Standard double, Morgedal Memory foam mattress, with removable washable cover. Priced at £165, it looks and feels like a quality mattress. It only took two days to arrive and it came roll packed, not in a box like other mattresses you where you have to struggle to pull the mattress out before you can remove it from the plastic.

The Morgedal memory foam mattress is not as heavy as I had first thought and after having moved it upstairs, it was at this point that I couldn't wait to get the old one out of the way and get this new one on our bed.

I laid the mattress right side up on the bed and carefully removed the plastic so the mattress could begin to take its shape. Within the first day, it had already almost fully formed, it does say on the enclosed slip that you can sleep on the mattress straight away after having removed it from the plastic.

I put a sheet on it and we slept on it that night, though it is more firm than our old mattress it is very comfortable and really does feel like it gives us the right amount of support our body needs. I know some people may not like firm mattresses but this one was just right for us. Since sleeping on this mattress I have had no aches or pains waking up which is fantastic and sometimes, I am so comfortable that I don't want to get out of bed.

The washable cover is something that I really like and I found it very easy for me to remove, this is a plus since there have been nights recently due to a cold that has made the rounds, where hubby has taken a hot water bottle to bed and got all sweaty, but now I can just take the cover off and throw it in the wash, it's so easy.

This mattress comes with a 25-year guarantee, is available in four sizes, standard double, standard single, 140 x 200cm, 160 x 200cm and a 1-year refund/exchange policy so if you are dissatisfied with your mattress you can get a refund in the year of purchase.

It may not be a high-end expensive mattress but in my opinion, this mattress is definitely worth every penny so if you are in the market for a new mattress I recommend checking out IKEA.
