Things to do in Wales: October

There’s nothing more exciting than exploring, whether it’s a totally new place or a corner of your town that you’ve never seen before. In Gwynedd, there are plenty of hidden gems and exciting things to do and discover. I’ve compiled a list of some Halloween inspired events you can check out in and around Wales this October.

12th and 13th October - Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghost at Aberdyfi

Location: Neuadd Dyfi, Penrhos, Aberdyfi LL35 0NR

Cost: £5 - £9 A funny, nostalgic journey back to the ’80s and a home haunted by a playful poltergeist. A captivating mystery set in a recognisable suburban world. 20th October -  Dolgellau Farmers Market at Dolgellau

Location: Eldon Square, Dolgellau LL40 1PS

Cost: £0 A lively market with a variety of stalls including local foods and crafts.

25th October -  Bonfire Night and Fireworks at Abermaw

Location: Barmouth, Southern Snowdonia, LL42 1NE

Cost: £0 Barmouth’s Bonfire and Firework Display takes place on the beach near the Bath House. This has become the event to mark the end of the main season and involves a huge bonfire on the beach and beautiful fireworks. Come and meet the locals and help us celebrate.

25th October -  GreenWood Forest Park - Halloween Spooktacular

Location: GreenWood Forest Park, Y Felinheli, Gwynedd, LL56 4QN

Cost: Adult £9.65, Child £9.25

From Saturday, October 25, GreenWood Forest Park will be kicking off it's Halloween events, with creepy crafts, lantern making, monstrous masks, create your own Harry Potter style broomstick and bring a witch's pet to life. Free hot chocolate for those in fancy dress.

26th October -  Halloween Train at Fairbourne Railway

Location: Beach Road, Fairbourne, Gwynedd, LL38 2EX

Cost: Adult £6.00, Child £3.00 The Fairbourne Railway's evening Halloween Train will be departing on Saturday 26 October. Fun for all the family. Advance booking advisable.

29th October - Hallowe’en Steam & Scream at Rheilffordd Talyllyn Railway

Location: Gorsaf Wharf Station, Tywyn, Gwynedd, LL36 9EY

Cost: £12 - £23.50 Join us, if you dare for a spooky journey for all ages into Dolgoch Woods. Why not come in your scariest fancy attire? Humans are also allowed!

25th - 31st October - Chirk Castle - Pumpkin Carving

Location: The stables at Home Farm, Chirk, Wrexham LL14 5AF Y

Cost: Normal admission charges apply for the castle plus £3 for a pumpkin.

Come along to Chirk Castle and try your hand at some pumpkin carving. Pumpkins cost £3 each and are already cleaned out. Call 01691 777701 or email

31st October - Beaumaris Castle - Spooky Halloween Day

Location: Castle St, Beaumaris, Isle of Anglesey LL58 8AP

When: 11am - 4pm

Cost: £5.25 for adults, £3.40 for concessions, £15.75 for families. The impressive castle will provide the setting for a host of Halloween-themed games. There will also be prizes handed out to the first 200 children taking part in these creepy activities.
